I Tried.

I think I came into this blog with all the wrong intentions. In the weeks before the beginning of this blog I had 4 people tell me that I should start one. Most of them told me that it would be great for my degree since I am a Telecommunications major, and for some reason that was why I finally decided to start it. But, I should have listened to the outlier, the one who told me she wanted others to read my quirky opinions on random things.

Starting this as a way to further my career(?) was in no way healthy for me. I got into perfectionist mode and stress ensued. I don't want a hobby to cause me to flip out, I have enough with classes and worrying about life. So I am coming back, with a fresh mindset and less comparison shopping. I hope to one day make this blog as polished as the ones I follow, but right now all I need is a place to share my thoughts with myself (and probably one or two family members).

I am a rambler and can go on and on and on about the smallest things so I will stop this shortly before it gets out of hand. For now, there will be very little rhyme or reason to my posts and their timing. I am going to use this as a creative space to get myself out of my head. Maybe someone will enjoy this with me, or maybe not. I really don't mind either way.

There have been some spectacular songs this year, but goodness gracious I have I found some to obsess over. I am not one to constantly replay a song, but I have found a couple this year that have an excessive play count.

The Sophia Method to Finding New Music

One thing you will learn about me fairly quickly is that I am always scavenging for new music. Music is kind of my drug that I need a constant fix of.  I might be 3 months behind on whats popular (ah the life of not listening to the radio) but give me two days alone with my Beats and I will be all caught up. No I am not going to tell you to become a hermit for a couple of days...stick with me on this.

Use the iTunes Store
I usually check iTunes first, they tend to have all of the newest music on their home page. The amount of options you can just scroll through and preview keep me there for hours. My favorites are Top Songs/Albums and New Releases. I can't count how many times I have found out one of my favorite artist's has released a new album because of this page.

Make a "New" Playlist on Spotify
What I like to do is preview songs on iTunes, and if I dig it I turn to Spotify. I create a playlist of music I have not listened to so that I can access it quickly and efficiently (impressed yet? efficiency should have been my middle name) Find the song/album and add to the playlist.

Scavenge Spotify (Ahhh Alliteration)
Do the same thing you just did on iTunes but on Spotify. They have many a popular playlists you can look at, they even have music they recommend to you based on what you listen normally. Look at it all! There is no limit to how many songs you can add to this playlist!

Listen to Said Playlist
The wonderful thing about Spotify, one of the many, is that you have access to all this free music, can create an infinite amount of playlist, and you can add and delete music as you please. So listen to that playlist that you just made. Don't like the song? delete... Love the song? WOOHHOOO! add to your songs, or if you're a playlist lover like I am it to its designated playlist. I usually delete songs from the playlist as I sort them so I know which ones I have listened to already (como se dice: short term memory).

So there you have it, my sure fire, simplified, music gathering system.

Find anything super awesome on your musical discoveries? Share with me! please... pretty please.

Procrastination Central

As a college student, I like to think a hold a degree in procrastinating, and regretting it later. So, since I had not one, but two exams earlier this week of course I built up a good number of procrastination tools. Studying and procrastinating are best friends, just fyi. Oh and in case you were wondering, the exams I think went pretty well, should find out what my grades are next week so cross your fingers for me please!

The Foo Fighters and Zac Brown covered "War Pigs"

I saw this pop up on my facebook feed earlier this morning and I have been playing it non-stop since. I never thought I would see Zac Brown singing Black Sabbath, but man does he pull it off. David Grohl, always killing it, and that drummer stole the show for me. Loved everything about this. Repeat, all day long.

Breakdance Conversation with Brad Pitt and Jimmy Fallon

Bringing me back to their yodeling conversation from a while ago. Totally laughed through all of this. Jimmy is a comic genius in my book. What really got me was the intricate dance moves for such simple conversations. Brad Pitts bye bye move at the end was also spectacular.

Love Thyself

Over the summer I was told I have a confident walk. I am not one to hang on to compliments but that one stuck with me. I really liked that compliment, it was interesting in all the good ways. A walk tells a lot about how a person feels about him/herself.

I have spent a long time trying to build confidence in myself. For a long while I had difficulty accepting my body for not being the societal ideal. Hating the fact that I had more than that model in the magazine. I compared myself to idealistic standards that were just dragging me down. But now I have gotten into the mindset that the more I love myself the happier I will be, and its true.

I found that even though it is cliché, beauty comes from within. Learning to love yourself first is so important. Not just loving your body but also loving your quirks. I spent all of high school pretending I was an extrovert, and had a bubbly personality. While there is nothing wrong with being either of those, that is not me. I am an introvert, I would rather stay home and marathon Criminal Minds than go out to a club. I am relaxed, you won't see me at the center of the party, but man do I kill it in small social gatherings. I have learned what works for me and what doesn't but most importantly I have learned to appreciate myself.

Appreciate the fact that I laugh harder at a twitter page dedicated to puns than I do at Modern Family. Appreciate that I am a genuine person that is nice to people because I am that way, not because I am trying to impress others. I guess what I want people to take away from this is that no one is perfect, but its a hell of a lot better to appreciate yourself than to compare yourself to others.

So hi,
I am an open-minded, Steelers loving, adrenaline junkie, Nutella eating, college student.

I am Sophia.

Welcome.

Here We Go Steelers!

I have been a die hard Steelers fan since the fifth grade. That's about 10 years now (woah) which is a long time for me stick with one thing. Thats more than half my life. So when I looked at the season lineup and saw they were playing in my hometown this year..... well there was a mini freak out of excitement. I had to get tickets. My poor college self was going to that game even if it meant I'd have to eat Ramen for a month

The months rolled by, the football season started and somehow I had forgotten to get tickets. Then my roommate reminded me about the game. I looked up tickets and goodness gracious..... the cheapest was $115.  I couldn't spring that. I had tuition to pay for, and no matter how much I love Ramen, I couldn't eat the amount it would take me to compensate for such a big expense. I came to terms with the fact that I would watch the game on TV and yell at them from my bed instead of the bleachers.

Game weekend I ended up having to go home for my aunt's 50th birthday. So I was breathing the same air as the Steelers. I was joyous. The party came and went, lots of singing, dancing, and casual drunkardness from the family. but heres the big part, my (other) aunt told me that if I could leave a bit later on Sunday she would give me her ticket to the game..... ensue heart eyes. After calling my mom, dad, and squaring it off with my cousin who had driven me home, I made it happen; I was going to the game!

I have never been so happy to be surrounded by sweating football fans in my life. The Steelers fans came out in the masses.

I was super happy I brought my yellow pants for the party (yes, I wore the same pants two days in a row). I got to be in the crowd for a Steelers game. They won. I screamed. My heart grew three sizes just by seeing the terrible towels in the crowd (I might have teared up when the Steelers walked on to the field).

Short game review: Solid effort by the Jaguars, Bortles looked like he was getting more comfortable but still needs more experience. Steelers have some things to tweak, the game was a little to close for comfort seeing as they were playing the Jags.
Controversial moment of the game: Towels Carry Ebola
Play of the Game: McCain's Pick-Six

What I Wore:
Hat: Reebok (old)
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Tank Top: Old Navy
Jeans: Old Navy (old)
